Clinical Tips: Winter Is Resurfacing Season

As temperatures drop across Australia and New Zealand, a familiar pattern emerges in aesthetic clinics: resurfacing season has arrived. And for good reason. The cooler, lower-UV months of winter create the ideal clinical window for deeper skin revitalisation treatments, particularly fractional CO2 resurfacing and RF microneedling with Secret PRO.

Why Winter?

The logic is simple. Freshly resurfaced skin is more photosensitive, and strict sun avoidance is a cornerstone of safe healing and optimal outcomes. In winter, UV levels are lower, patients spend less time outdoors, and sun protection compliance is naturally easier to maintain. Shorter days and quieter social calendars also make planned downtime far more manageable for patients.

There is a commercial logic too. Patients who begin a resurfacing series in winter complete their treatment journey, and reveal their results, just in time for spring and summer. For clinics, that makes winter the perfect season to convert consultations into committed treatment plans.

Model. Not actual patient.

The Secret PRO Advantage

Secret PRO uniquely combines two clinically proven technologies in a single platform: fractional CO₂ laser resurfacing for the epidermis and RF microneedling for deep dermal remodelling. Each modality can be used independently or together, allowing clinicians to treat from the surface down to 3.5 mm and tailor every treatment to the patient’s concern, skin type, and tolerance for downtime.

The fractional CO₂ is optimal for resurfacing concerns such as fine lines, sun damage, tone, and texture in skin types I to III, while RF microneedling safely treats all skin types, with adjustable needle depths from 0.5 to 3.5 mm and controlled energy delivery at the point of needle insertion. Together, they deliver clinically proven skin remodelling from the inside out.

Practical Pre-Treatment Tips

Set patients up for success before they arrive. Confirm there has been no recent sun exposure, tanning, or artificial tanning in the treatment area, as these increase the risk of side effects. Review medications and skincare actives, pausing retinoids and exfoliating agents as per your clinic protocol. For patients with a history of cold sores, consider antiviral pre-treatment. And most importantly, set clear expectations around downtime, healing stages, and the treatment series required to achieve their goal.

Practical Post-Treatment Tips

Healing skin needs simplicity and protection. Keep the post-care routine gentle: a mild cleanser, a barrier-supporting moisturiser, and diligent broad-spectrum SPF 50+ every day, even in winter. Advise patients to avoid heat exposure such as saunas, hot showers, and strenuous exercise in the initial healing phase, and to resist picking or exfoliating as the skin renews. Schedule a follow-up to review healing, capture progress photography, and book the next treatment in the series.

Winter will not last forever.
